An element of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City thwarted an attempted robbery at a convenience store in the Iztapalapa borough, where one of the alleged thieves died at the scene. The second individual managed to flee.
According to reports from the SSC, the officer was conducting his regular patrol in the Valle de Luces neighborhood when he noticed a man trying to enter the store by breaking one of the glass doors. Upon seeing this situation, the police officer approached and, seeing that the suspect was attempting to force his way in, shot at him with his service weapon to protect the store employee.
After the shots, the officer noticed the presence of a green motorcycle fleeing the scene and fired a second shot as a precautionary measure. Following the incident, emergency services were called, and Civil Protection paramedics diagnosed one of the alleged thieves, 34 years old, as dead due to a gunshot wound.
The 28-year-old officer was presented to the Public Ministry to clarify the facts and assist in the corresponding investigation. On the other hand, the General Directorate of Internal Affairs was also involved in the case to assist in the investigations carried out by the prosecutorial authorities.
In a video released about the incident, the alleged thief is seen repeatedly striking the glass door until breaking it in an attempt to enter the establishment. However, upon doing so, he comes face to face with the police officer, who fires several shots at him in self-defense. After the shots, the officer takes out his cellphone to communicate the situation.
